Before joining Thorne Accounting, I worked in a variety of commercial and public practice roles with mid-tier and boutique firms in New Zealand and overseas including Moa Beer and Sealord in New Zealand and Sanitarium in the UK.

In addition to the accounting and tax compliance, I have extensive advisory experience across a wide variety of industries including FMCG, retail, wholesale, manufacturing, and technology services. Typically, I enjoy advising clients on performance reporting for decision making, financial forecast modelling, business valuations, MBO's, due diligence, debt & equity funding, succession planning and business sales processes,

I am a CAANZ Chartered Accountant and have a Bachelor of Commerce and a Post Graduate Diploma of Commerce from the University of Auckland. Currently, I am also a provisional member of the NZ Institute of Directors and will be working my way to becoming a full member later in 2021.

Outside of the office, I have a young family with a lovely supportive wife and a four year old girl and a two year old boy that keep life fun and interesting. I am very passionate about mental health and have always found my own inner zen through road cycling having previously competed at an elite level in New Zealand. These days, I am happy simply just getting out a couple of times during the week to turn the pedals and when time is tight you might catch me pounding the pavements on a run.

Before joining Thorne Accounting, I was a Director/Partner at one of New Zealand’s leading independent accounting firms, working in their Business Advisory team. In my role, I acted as the trusted advisor to a number of private clients, family trusts and businesses – specialising in SMEs, Trusts and Property.  In my early career I had the opportunity to work in Toronto, Canada and at the NZ branch of an NYSE listed FMCG company.

I am a member of Chartered Accountants Australia + NZ, where I am a member on their Public Practice Advisory Board.  A proud scarfie, I have a Bachelor of Arts in French and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Economics from the University of Otago. I am also a member of CPA Australia and the NZ Institute of Directors.

I enjoy working with people and helping them grow their businesses. I thrive on challenges and enjoy finding straight-forward solutions to problems.  I am excited to be joining the firm and have a genuine interest in looking after the long-term financial wellbeing of kiwi families.

Most of my time outside of work is spent with my partner and daughter.  Our current weekend go-to is the local farmers market!  I also volunteer as a board member of the French NZ Chamber of Commerce and mentor students for the Staples Education Foundation.

I have worked in accounting since leaving school in 1990.  Starting in a manufacturing business I achieved my finance degree whilst working and then went on to qualify as a Chartered Management Accounting in 1999.

My career in the UK has been in large corporate organisations including the financial services and property sectors.  After arriving in NZ in 2013, I took up a position with Carter Holt Harvey as Group Planning Manager.  These Group roles have given me the opportunity to work with many businesses and people gaining a real understanding of how businesses work.

The arrival of my two sons saw me take an extended period of leave and I returned to work starting my own accounting and payroll training service before joining Thorne Accounting in 2014.

I am passionate about accounting and property, having my own property portfolio and my husband working in the commercial property sector.  I love the lifestyle NZ has to offer and our family spend all our free time making the most of the outdoor life.

I’ve loved numbers for as long as I can remember.  I was still in high school when I was the filing clerk for a small Accounting firm.  This lead on to a role as a trainee accountant within the same firm.

Ten years quickly passed with me completing my Accounting degree and Associated Chartered Accountants qualification and gaining the experience of working alongside business owners and rental investors.  I then moved on to a larger Accounting firm that worked more closely with larger corporate clients.

In 2009, I took up the opportunity to earn a teaching qualification.  In 2012, I returned to the accounting world as a contract accountant with a greater appreciation for the various ways in which people learn and the differences this creates in relaying information to them.

I’m now a hands off investor and believe in looking at the long term big picture when it comes to investing.  I feel this is best achieved by building a diversified portfolio which provides a mixture of positive cashflow returns and increases in capital gain.

I enjoy regular travel around New Zealand in a camper, seeing the wonderful scenery and meeting the friendly locals. This is my passion – long may it last and is my way of achieving a great work life balance.

After completing my bachelor of management studies from Waikato University, my first job was as a tax consultant in the tax team at Deloitte which provided me with a strong knowledge of New Zealand tax, working with large Corporates. I then worked at a general Chartered Accountancy firm to further my accounting skills and to apply my tax knowledge to small taxpayers.

After gaining that valuable tax and accounting experience, I began Thorne Accounting in 2004 where I was operating as a sole accountant.

Due to growth, my wife Erin (also an accountant!) started work for Thorne Accounting in 2008. On the birth of our second son in 2011, I took on employees to take over Erin's workload. Lesley and Katherine are the fantastic accountants currently working at Thorne Accounting.  Erin has also now returned to Thorne Accounting on a part time basis.

I turned 40 in 2020 so I still consider myself young and enthusiastic so I have plenty of energy to put into the business and clients. The majority of my spare time is spent playing with my young children (now 3 of them). I do manage to find a few hours a week to play soccer for Western Springs, love to play tennis, and I enjoy snowboarding with the kids during the school holidays.
